Welcome to the Amigos en Cristo Story:
Amigos en Cristo Ministries springs from the relationship of local pastors in Juarez with those from the USA serving on short term mission trips beginning in 2000. Together, they built homes for displaced and at-risk families on the outskirts of Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico. As violence and corruption escalated during the war between drug cartels, our hearts would not allow us to forget those who need to be lifted in hope.
In 2007, we collaborate with community leaders, learning their greatest concern was for care and education for their children. To respond to the expressed needs of the children of Juarez, we opened two community centers creating a place for children to be safe and cared for, helping to uphold families.
Amigos en Cristo works with over 100 individuals and several organizations to serve in one of the most disadvantaged parts of the world - Juarez, Mexico. We coordinate short-term mission trips to Juarez for small groups to build homes, do repair work on our community centers, host vacation bible school, host men and women’s conferences, crafts, sewing projects, but most importantly; building relationships with our Mexican sisters and brothers as we share the love of Jesus by sharing the holy gospel. We operate our ministries primarily from two community centers in two colonies on the outskirts of Juarez. Amistad is in the colony of Anapra and New Beginnings is in Ampliación Felipe Ángeles.
Our chief work in these community centers is supporting families with an After-School Program and Open School Program. Pastor Misael Loera and his wife Dr. Doris Lares oversee the staff who serves more than 100 children and youth with these programs.
In addition, staff uses the community centers for community outreach, youth bible and leadership training.
We hope that you are inspired to be a part of this journey in any capacity that fits your availability.
