Ruth Yanel AvalosRuth Yanel Avalos is a multitalented assistant teacher at New Beginnings who joined the staff in September 2012. A long time Christian, whose father and husband are both deacons in church, she has served for many years teaching different Sunday School classes. She has been a voluntary teacher of arts and crafts workshops at both Amistad and New Beginnings and taught a class in Summer Camp. Even as a volunteer, she participated in teacher training in April and July 2011. Like a number of Amigos staff, Ruth is continuing her training by participating in the teacher aid training offered by the government.
Before joining the Amigos en Cristo staff, Ruth worked in a big jewelry store in downtown Juarez for over fifteen years. Her husband Jorge L. Holguin is a lieutenant in the Fire Department, and they have a son named Jahziel who is in high school. Ruth was kept very busy on the Amigos en Cristo summer mission trip to Ocosingo, Chiapas, the southern most state of Mexico. She was on the missions outreach team conducting crafts classes. Her classes were extremely popular with the indigenous people from the area. Jahziel, her son, was on the outreach team comprised of a handful of young men that served indigenous people further into the jungle than the rest of the Juarez team on this trip. Jorge, meanwhile, was at home helping several children acquire their papers in order to attend Lydia Patterson High School in the fall of 2012. Ruth and her family continue to be a blessing to this ministry. |
