Socorro RacarioGod sets the lonely in families….”(Psalm 68: 6a)
Socorro Racario’s story reminds us of why we are doing ministry in Juarez, Mexico at all. Making an investment there is changing lives. Socorro’s eight year old son drew her to volunteer in the kitchen at New Beginnings Community Center in August 2011 to be near him. Nelly Acosta befriended her. A lot has happened in Socorro’s life since then. She said that she used to spend weekends drinking and dancing but she has come to know Jesus and was baptized in the spring of 2012. She has a shy smile and is happy to stay in the background. God is using her to make a huge difference in the lives of children. In the early spring of 2011, caretakers at New Beginnings Community Center started feeding children in the clear that some of the children did not have any food in their homes so Amigos en Cristo expanded the meal ministry to serve children at New Beginnings as well as at Amistad. We’re justifiably proud of staff members who are paying attention to the people in their community. Socorro is now working with Nelly at New Beginnings Community Center in the kitchen. She’s a great cook with a heart for kids! “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to hi, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) |
