One of my favorite reasons for going to Juarez, Mexico with Amigos en Cristo is Sundays. It's so cool to attend service with a group of people of a different culture, a Minister speaking a foreign language, but yet, we're all worshiping the same almighty Father. And seeing friends again that you've met over the years, sharing meals, and testimonies. Wow! Everyone should experience this. God is really working in Juarez. A person would never know how little these people have because they are so happy living purposeful lives with Christ at their center. Amigos (en Cristo) has played such a big role in what is happening in Juarez, Mexico. I feel blessed to be a part of it, serving our Lord.
The Nehemiah Project in Juarez is a job that Amigos en Cristo has taken on to build a wall around a new property we have acquired. It's been very hard work with long hours in the desert sun (on the July 2013 trip). But it has been very rewarding. Besides the people from Cherry Hills, many locals connected with Amigos have been out to help. Even at the end of the day, we're laughing and having fun. I think everyone realizes we're serving the Lord and our sweat, cuts, blisters and sore muscles can never compare to what Jesus went through to forgive us of our sins. The property is large and has endless opportunities for us to serve the Lord in Juarez, Mexico. I'm excited to see the outcome of this project. One of the reasons I enjoy these mission trips is that I ultimately see the results. One day it's concrete and blocks, a few years later it's a community center where students are tutored, given a good meal, and taught about our Savior. God is working in Juarez.- Steve Zartler
In early May of this year I had the incredible blessing of visiting Amigos en Cristo in Juarez. Words can't describe the encouragement I received even in the brief two weeks that I was there. While part of our focus was to work with the organization to start small business ventures, I personally walked away with more wealth in knowledge than I ever expected.
Whether it was sitting in on the Mother's Day Celebration at Amistad, playing soccer with neighborhood kids, to sitting around the kitchen exchanging laughs and stories with the Men at New Beginnings, discussing Mexican history with Misael, sharing cake with the high school group on teacher appreciation day; the staff at AEC taught me the importance of community in Christ. Children, Teachers and Parents alike were more than willing to show the life of Christ to us as guests, but the entire community as well.
These words don't do justice, to what a phenomenal experience the 2 weeks were. Whether it was watching Abraham, Joel and Erica putting together a 5 hour mother's day celebration , Martin and Victor waking up at 5 in the morning to cook breakfast and drive the kids to school, the stories that inspired me were endless. What touched me the most was hearing how this organization has been such an incredible testimony in the community: and how despite the difficulties, they have never wavered or faltered, from the central theme of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Having worked with community outreach centers in two other continents, AEC's work was truly inspiring and in many ways a breath of fresh air. Like the hundreds that have visited AEC as well, I can confidently recommend this community as one that goes above and beyond in extending the kingdom of God in Juarez. Special thanks to the Quick family as well as Stephanie Herder for making the week so special! - Sam Tzou
I was first introduced to Amigos en Cristo during a Spring Break mission trip in 2012, and I fell in love with the city of Juarez, the people there, and the hope and joy that they have. I knew it wouldn't be my last time there. This past May I had the opportunity to go back for a month, where I was able to combine my passion for business and missions to look for ways for Amigos en Cristo to be more sustainable. I have no doubt that the lessons I learned, the blessings I received, and the experiences that I have gained in Juarez have shaped me as a person and a follower of Christ. God has used Amigos en Cristo and the people of Juarez to teach me how to love people well and to recognize God's own deeper calling for my own life. I so highly recommend and encourage you to partner with Amigos en Cristo and experience the beautiful things that God is doing in Juarez! - Stephanie Herder
"Blessed" This is the word to describe my trips to Ocosingo Mexico. I had been using excuses for years to avoid going on a mission trip, and, boy, was I was wrong to listen to those excuses. I was blessed in so many ways on these trips. The men and women that I got to work with were inspiring, and they make the trip a wonderful and blessed experience. It brings a smile to my face thinking about how blessed I was with the opportunity to interact with smiling, grateful children. I was blessed knowing my work will help improve the living environment of these young children that have been through so much at such a young age. Blessed with the opportunity to interact with smiling grateful children: it brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. Also, I was blessed knowing that these children are seeing the love of Jesus Christ in their lives. If anyone is on the fence about going on a mission trip, don't think anymore, go and your life will be blessed! Plus, you will be blessed with really amazing food! - Ryan Suess
